I wonder if this will be akin to Hamilton's exit from McLaren. Does Seb know something we don't? The team have been losing key staff, but I really don't think Ferrari is the place to go.

Of course, many had the same reaction to Schumi leaving Benneton for Ferrari for '96. History does repeat itself in F1, and if teams get their 'turn' at the top, then Red Bull's has expired, Mercedes are just starting, and it's all to play for between Ferrari, McLaren (now the de facto Honda works team) and - yes, I'm going to say it - Williams (who I think are on the verge of some real breakthroughs) over the next decade.

alonso to mclaren-honda, highly doubt he'll drive for the scuderia next year (which is ok with me, i dont really like him that much despite him being a huge talent)

vettel, hamiton or bianchi will replace him, id like to see vettel go there tbh.

If Alonso moves anywhere it'd most likely be Bianchi to raplce him, but it's all up in the air! Any move could happen...

...Except Chilton to Mercedes perhaps

In an interview a couple of weeks back, Alonso categorically denied all of the "silly season" rumors that he was even contemplating leaving Ferrari. He stated that none of these rumors had any factual basis at all. He also basically "dressed down" the media and asked them to stop reporting such nonsense as it was upsetting his team.

My own personal opinion, unless there is some drastic shift Alonso will retire from Ferrari. Of course, stranger things have happened. F1 is nothing if not unpredictable.

Expecting a Alonso-Button line up for 2015 with Raikkonen-Bianchi at Ferrari. Most of other teams staying the same but with Marussia having to have 2 'pay' drivers. Caterham + Sauber to sadly not make the 2015 season. Can see 3 car teams in 2016 with third drivers having no previous F1 experience.

Not sure about Button. I heard that Magnusson has a higher chance of being dropped....

I do hope that if Alonso doesn't go to McLaren that it's not a massive mistake and he has to spend a year as a mid-packer...

IMO, the one that has underwhelmed and should be the odd man out when all is said and done is Kimi Raikkonen.

I find it astounding that he did so much better at Lotus than he has at Ferrari this season.

Alonso - loves understeer

that is why Raikkonen is playing catch up.

It appears to be a bit damp in Suzuka today.

Really hoping that Jules Bianchi is okay after a nasty incident at the end of the race. JCB was on track to recover Sutils Sauber when Bianchi appeared to sideswipe it.

Always said that whenever there is a recovery truck on track then there should be a safety car. Couple that with the fact that the medical helicopter couldn't fly, race should've been flagged sooner.

From what I can tell so far, he hit the crane parked on track. Pictures are available, nothing terribly gruesome EDIT: Worse things have been posted since I made this post, but it almost appears that pieces of his car are UNDER the crane.

He was taken to the hospital with police escort, due to the helicopter being unable to fly.

FIA spokesperson had him listed as "critical" and that he was unconscious when he left the track.

I thought there was a rule saying if the medical/emergency helicopter couldn't take off or land the race was to be stopped?

Everything (weather, accidents, nighttime) came at once. I wouldn't be surprised if knowledge about the helicopter being unable to take off came at almost the exact time it was needed.

The monocoque is intact, and there's no sign of physical gore. Not too unlike an average accident, IMO.

The first one I saw was a distant side-view with the wheels off, a lot of the scenery obscured by workers and a pole.

Since then, many more photos have been posted that make this more and more at-your-own-risk. pale
