TORA Pro GT Sebring 500 - General Discussion

Post by LMR Deftone MX on Thu 9 Apr 2015 - 19:54

For all discussion regarding the Sebring 500!

We wish the event could be the usual 4 stint - 1,000KM format, however the integration of LMP1 to live lobbies prohibits that from being possible. Its a matter of give and take in order to try new ideas.

Corvette has been hit as well. This track heavily favors the the acceleration of the M3, so it was quite necessary to reduce it, however we can't do so without reducing the Vette relativey.

We are considering not allowing solo entries in order to allow the event to be a strictly team effort. Thoughts?

Team effort Smile

I think it'll be easier for you to manage the competition and having a team mate always adds that extra feel to it.

Ah my missus is from Bracebridge. I've been up to H(c)untsville haha

Yeah i'm curious about the live timing actually. I wonder how they'd do it. Distance based?

Live lobbies means every stint starts in the up to date positions. This process with a single class realistically takes us longer then we have to do it. With the addition of a second class, it's no longer simply a case of setting them in order and going. On top of the already overwhelming task, we then have to add another time consuming process of splitting the grid by class so P1 doesn't fill the top lobby after stint 1.

Having to do all this 3 times between stints and once after is simply too much to ask of myself and the others involved. There is also no physical way we would be able to stay even close to on schedule. Doing it once between 2 stints is going to be tough enough, but hopefully just manageable.

Re: TORA Pro GT Sebring 500 - General Discussion

Post by XPR Roadrunner on Fri 10 Apr 2015 - 2:39

lets do some maths shall we?

LETS ASSUME LMP1 has a 1:45s lap time and GTE is 2:05s

thats a 20s difference per lap. Meaning LMP will lap gte every 6-7 laps. 250km is roughly 37 laps which means LMP will lap GTE 6 times. So when all the LMP cars finish they'd have to pause it in t1 and wait 12min until the GTE field finishes.

that's how'd they need to do it under the way they've been doing it.

Me personally would not mind waiting 12-15min for the whole lobby to finish. I'd get a coffee and read a nice book and let my fingers straighten out lol.

see no biggie, lets do the full 1000k, ok? good. See ya then

ah you posted when I was typing that....

that is a fair point, but if you plan ahead for such a gap, it should still go on schedule, no?

Yes but again, a 10 hour investment turns into a 12 or 13 hour investment, and I'm not putting myself or others through it. It's probably hard to grasp without having done it, but live lobbies is very straining stint after stint; to organize while lobby hosting, and worst of all.. racing.

Needless to say I do think we've gotten pretty good at it, we've met our maker & unfortunately it's out of the question.

Would you not do what we did which is do a 1 stint delay. For example:

Stint 3 grid = finishing positions on stint 1
Stint 4 grid = finishing positions on stint 2
Stint 5 grid = finishing positions on stint 3...and so on.

It meant we had a full two hours to stay organised and have the orders up well in time for the start of the stints.

To be honest, no. Live lobbies is what makes Pro GT, Pro GT. If this gets run one day by staff, and we have an organizer change, who knows.. Maybe we'll go 2,000. But for this, let's just keep it 500. Give us a chance to better enjoy our last event Smile

Can we wait and see what the numbers are like before deciding this as I would like to do a solo effort and with a multi class format, it may boost the numbers for one last forray in the endurance section on FM5 (possibly)

I reckon teams. Solo efforts are fine but too many solo entries could take it away from being a team based event. Deftone has a point with the builds. Either way i just wanna race. so thanks to Def for doing this last race i cant wait!!

Skoda, as nice as that would be, I think allowing people to plan to run solo if there's a good chance it won't happen will cause some understandably sticky situations.
