BEHIND THE SCENES >> Rebuilding Slider's SBR TASCAR

TASCAR Remains

Last time out in the TASCAR Championship at Highspeed Benchmark Ring it all went wrong for the #219 car in the closing laps, after a last gasp safety car all hell broke loose with the car of Gary P Spinning up into the path of Slider who was travelling at over 100mph. The above picture is what was left, the car was written off with very little salvageable. A new car was needed for Slider to compete in the TASCAR series.

Delivery from Chevrolet

A few days later a fresh chassis arrived in a container from Chevrolet and was dellivered to the SBR Compound in Norfolk. This was just a rolling chassis for the SBR boys to get to work on.

Delivering the engine

A few days later and the new engine was ready to be picked up. Here we see it arriving at the SBR Workshop in the back of our work horse Saleen Pickup after Slider picked it up from Engine builder and long time SBR Sponsor Lyndale Race Engines (www.lyndaleraceengines.cjb.net) The new engine is of the same spec as the old one which proved both fast and reliable competing in both TASCAR and a 3 hour Endurance race During an Ex-Member’s 24 hour challenge at Le Sarthe.

Ready to paint

Here we can see the build has progressed along with the Nerf bars constructed and the car primered and masked out ready to be painted in its traditional “Griefy” replica paintwork…

Fresh basecoat

…and with the basecoat paintwork applied. The new car will be painted the same as the first car. The Sign writers from sponsors Dan Klynn Signs will arrive to airbrush on all of the sponsors and the large #219 down each side of the TRC World Champion’s Stock car.

It is still unknown if Slider will be able to make it to the Le Sarthe round this weekend due to the possibility of other things keeping him away from the track. However the car will be sent to France to meet up with Slider (who is still in Germany with the M&M Racing team after the disappointing LMS Round) upon his arrival at the end of the week if he can compete.
