Re: Connection Speeds
This testing doesnt really prove anything, i think its just how xbox servers are running on the night that matters and who is hosting on those servers. I had a great connection the other sunday with 12 ppl in the lobby inc Dewey, but i was on with him the other night and we couldn't hold a conversation let alone drive for an hour.
until whoever at the top gets their finger out at xbox and creates some stable servers i think its just hit and miss.

You're right in what you're saying about this not making sure 100% we're going to have no-lag servers, but you have to appreciate that these tests at least give us a chance to get close to it, by seeing who has the best connection. Otherwise we could let anyone host and end up with the possiblility that we could have horrendous lag.

Re: Connection Speeds
Connection speeds yes have a part to play but the biggest issues are -
Ltd Nat connection (really bad if you want to race online with this connection type)
Other users on your net work, you will lag and cause crashes until you either get them to not use your net work or you set up a net work channel so you can allocate bandwith
Wired connections far more safer.
IP conflicts, its not lobby hosts fault if you have a IP conflict, its your IP, reset your router before a race
plus really its not xbox live half the time generaly the user shouting at his xbox

Racing is life, anything before or after is just waiting

Re: Connection Speeds
This really is easy to follow if you read it as you do it. Defo recommend this for you Chris as it may help protect your xbox live session a little from other network users.

Re: Connection Speeds

And just so you guys, know, there is no actual connection 'host' in Forza.
Whereas in other games, somebody hosts the game, and everyone connects to them, in Forza the 'host' is only the host of the lobby, e.g. the settings for the race etc. When a person joins he/she then connects not just to the host, but to everyone that is in the lobby.
That is why we get so many connection errors with not being able to join. In a normal game, all that has to happen for anyone to be able to join is the host to have an open NAT setting and it doesn't then matter about anyone else.
In Forza though, it the host sets up a game, a second player joins and happens to have a closed NAT, that then means anyone with a moderate or closed NAT cannot join until this person has left the game.

Hence why I sat through the very confusing method to get my particular modem set to open NAT. :p
And I'll post my SpeedTest and PingTest as soon as my seven days are up. :p

Re: Connection Speeds

I envy EVERYONE that is in a nation that doesn't have companies that scalp citizens for bandwidth speeds. Especially those that have 50 to 100 Mb/s, the highest speed here is something like 25 Mb/s with 5Mb/s up on ADSL lines.
